Rolladen shutters permit ventilation

One of the greatest benefits of Rolladen Rolling Shutters may be that the product features a vented position that can be used year-round, according to Fran Minnozzi, owner of the local franchise that installs the shutters.

The vented position allows sunlight while still providing protection from crime. The shutters also can work in conjunction with swamp coolers.

Swamp coolers, once popular many years ago, have made a comeback because of increasing power bills, according to Minnozzi. Because windows must be left partially open during their operation, the shutters can be set to allow proper ventilation.

The shutters were first introduced to provide protection against crime, but rising heating and cooling costs have contributed to their recent popularity, according to Minnozzi.

Rolladen Rolling Shutters are aluminum roll-filled slats that are used to cover windows, doors and even dog doors. The shutters can be operated with either manual or electric controls.

Minnozzi's shop is at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd. The business is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment on Saturdays.

Rolladen is offering a year-end sale that will conclude Dec. 24.
