Sun City Anthem resident tunes into yoga
When Peggy Pierce moved to Sun City Anthem, she was in need of healing. The former nurse and her husband, Thaddeus, a retired physician, moved to the desert hoping it would relieve her asthma. "We're originally from Chicago, but we moved to Nevada after living in Georgia, which darn near did me in," Peggy Pierce said. "We wanted to live in a dry climate and found everything we were looking for at Sun City Anthem." Once their move to the age-qualified community in Henderson was complete, Peggy Pierce sought out an exercise program at the on-site fitness center. She chose yoga. "I needed a structured program that wasn't too strenuous," Pierce said. "I have been doing yoga for two years now and nearly all of my physical problems have gone away as a result. My knee pain has subsided and the carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands has disappeared. I don't have shoulder pains, back pains or leg pains anymore. I had all of these problems before starting yoga. It has really improved my life." Pierce has seen the health of her friends improve with yoga as well. "We had a gal in our class who found she had very low bone density, which meant her bones broke very easily. She took yoga regularly for a couple of months and (she said) the doctors couldn't believe how much she had strengthened her bones." The couple purchased the Monticello plan, which overlooks the ninth fairway of the Revere at Anthem Golf Club's Lexington course, one of two golf courses in the community. "We can walk right out onto the golf course from our back yard," Pierce said. Their home measures 2,752 square feet with two bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. It is offered with a bonus room, golf cart area and covered patio. Buyers can choose from 19 floor plans, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet. Homes are priced from the high $140,000s to more than $500,000s. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
