Southern California couple find new home at Sun City
Gloria and Howard Adler, retired teachers from Southern California, had initially purchased a "cottage home" at Sun City Anthem with intentions of making it their second home. But after experiencing the lifestyle at the age-qualified community, they decided to make Henderson their permanent residence and bought a larger house. "We found we were spending more and more time here, rather than going back to our home in Simi Valley," Gloria Adler said. "So we've sold our home there and are in the process of building a larger model at Sun City Anthem." They are building the Liberty design, a 2,179-square-foot home with a living room, master bedroom and optional guest suite. "The casita is great for visitors," Adler said. Homes at the community are priced from the mid-$140,000s to more than $500,000. Nineteen models are offered, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet. The Adlers have discovered an active social life at the Del Webb community. "It's just wonderful now we have so many new friends from all over the world. Everyone here is interested in meeting new people," Adler said. "There are a lot of interesting activities. I'm never bored." She has been active in the community's Sewing Club, mah-jongg classes, water color and oil painting classes, aquasize, and arts and crafts. She also has been busy making mosaic stepping stones for her future garden and stained-glass projects. "Howard likes the exercise equipment in the fitness center," she said, adding that they enjoy walking two miles every day on the facility's indoor track, which is suspended above an indoor swimming pool. The fitness center also offers aerobic and strength-training equipment and is located in Anthem Center, a 77,363-square-foot facility with social and recreational opportunities for residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant, which is open to the public. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, past St. Rose Parkway, to Anthem Parkway and turn left. The model homes are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
