Semi-retirees enjoy life at Sun City Anthem

The journey to retirement has been a satisfying one for Gary and Cosha Offenberg, who own a home in Southern California, and recently purchased another at Del Webb's Sun City Anthem in Henderson.

"We're actually semi-retired," Gary Offenberg said. "We travel between L.A. and Las Vegas about every two weeks."

The Offenbergs own a trucking company with hubs in Houston, St. Louis and Los Angeles.

"My wife and I like to come to Las Vegas anyway to vacation, and we always enjoyed looking at homes. We just fell in love with the area," Offenberg said. "I like the elevation of Sun City Anthem, and we really enjoy Henderson."

On their first visit to the age-qualified community, the couple were too young to purchase a home there.

"Our new house was completed just after we were eligible to buy," Offenberg said.

They chose the Arlington model "because we love the floor plan that has three bedrooms as a standard feature. That gives us plenty of space for our children and grandchildren to visit."

Cosha Offenberg agreed.

"The Arlington has a lot to offer," she said. "In fact, my sister and her husband, Mary and Bob Oney, are in the process of building the same model here at Sun City Anthem. They lived in our neighborhood in Southern California, too. Now they are building a house on our street."

Although not yet a full-time resident, Cosha Offenberg said she enjoys the amenities at Anthem Center.

"The walking track is great," she said. "The pool is wonderful and I also like the stationary bike and other exercise equipment at the fitness center."

Anthem Center offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant, which is open to the public.

"The food is very good at Trumpets and the view is spectacular," Gary Offenberg said.

There are 19 models available, measuring from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet.

Homes are priced from the mid-$140,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit the model village, take Eastern Avenue south to Anthem Parkway and turn left. Drive 1 1/4 miles to Alexandria Road and turn right. The sales office is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
