Firm donates flooring for 50-hour home

Builders Showcase of Nevada will donate and install the flooring in Pardee's 50-Hour House, which will be built in North Las Vegas over five 10-hour days.

"We are excited to be participating in the 50-Hour House," said Stein Hammell, design center manager for Builders Showcase. "We are donating upgraded tile for the kitchen, entry way and fireplace surround, upgraded carpet and vinyl for the bathrooms and laundry room, as well as the labor to install it all over a five-hour window.

"We have been reviewing our procedures so we know how to stage it all to make our installation happen efficiently and professionally on our day of involvement," Hammell said.

The company, owned by Jack Down and Sally Prince, has been doing business with Pardee Homes in Southern California for more than 20 years. It has operated in Southern Nevada for seven years, providing residential flooring and counter tops to the building industry.

Nearly 40 subcontractors and vendors have pledged their support to build the 50-Hour House, a 2,046-square-foot, two-story home in the Talavera neighborhood.

The home in the Eldorado Highlands community will be built Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. The public is invited to watch each day's progress and a city building inspector will be on-hand to review all aspects of construction.

The Plan 3A home, measuring 2,046 square feet, features four bedrooms, three baths and a two-car garage. It will be sold at the model's base price, about $165,000. An additional $50,000 in options will be included at no charge. Interested buyers may visit the sales office to prequalify and be entered for a chance to purchase the home.

Like all of the builders' homes, the 50-Hour House will meet the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star guidelines, which certifies that a house is at least 30 percent more energy efficient than those built to standard codes.

The Clark County Public Education Foundation will benefit from the project with 50 $1,000 scholarships for local students wishing to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Neighborhood models are featured in the Eldorado Highlands model park along with eight plans from the Fontana and Mandevilla neighbor- hoods.

The family oriented community includes an elementary school, parks and fire station.

To visit, take Craig Road to Camino al Norte and head north into the community. Models are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when they open at 11 a.m.
