Summerlin children marks summer's end

Summerlin children marked the end of summer during the annual Kids Night Out, a sleepover party presented by The Summerlin Council at The Willows Community Center.

More than 25 children ages 6 to 10 attended the 14-hour event, which included a pizza dinner, games, movies and night-time swim.

"The event celebrates the end of summer and the beginning of another school year. The children are given one last blast of summer fun while parents are given a few hours of free time. We've learned that parents appreciate this event as much as the children," said Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for the council.

The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit branch of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to enriching social, educational and recreational opportunities for residents, has been organizing events since the first families moved into the community in the early 1990s.

"Summerlin's numerous parks and community centers provide the perfect settings for the various activities and events planned for the residents," said Larry Brocato, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.

Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. Situated along the western rim of the valley, it is being developed in villages.

More than 120 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, which are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million.

Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the $800s.
