Sun City Anthem club helps residents stay fit, make friends

The aquacise club at Sun City Anthem, an age-qualified community in Henderson, helps residents stay fit, have fun and make friends.

"This is a good total physical workout, as well as a lot of fun," president John Williams said. "Exercising in the water increases stamina, builds muscle tone and coordination, and is a low-impact aerobic activity. The idea is to raise the heart rate and get a good workout.

"We have people with various abilities. Socializing is a bonus. The water aerobics class is a way to invite new residents into the community and bond with classmates."

In addition to frequent classes each week, vice president Irene Janicki has organized social gatherings such as potluck dinners and luncheons, as well as educational seminars.

Williams said between 25 and 40 people attend classes at the indoor pool in Anthem Center, site of fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents.

The center also is home to a variety of clubs, tennis and bocce courts, billiards, card games, a library, and Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public.

Additionally, the Del Webb community offers The Revere at Anthem Golf Club, which features two championship golf courses: the Lexington and the Concord.

Twelve floor plans ranging from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet are available. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive.

The models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
