Early childhood education center options grow in Summerlin

The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain has opened its early childhood education center, bringing the total number of Summerlin schools for young children to 15. The center is 10,753 square feet, adding four classrooms, a lunchroom, community area, and administrative offices to the 33-acre campus in The Gardens village. There are more than 50 youngsters enrolled at the center.

Larry Brocato, an executive with The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, said most of the community's educational facilities, both public and private, offer early childhood education.

"Summerlin's first school opened in 1993, only three years after development commenced. And, almost two schools a year have been added throughout the past decade to keep up with the growing number of school-aged children in our community," he said. "Summerlin is designed to accommodate families and as such, education is a top priority."

The community is home to 19 schools and three facilities of higher education. Four additional schools, both public and private, are in various stages of development.

In addition to Dawson, the private early childhood education centers are: Faith Lutheran Academy, Lit'l Scholar Academy, The Meadows School, The Merryhill School, The Milton I. Schwartz Hebrew Academy, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and Temple Beth Sholom.

Summerlin aligns the western valley and comprises villages. It features parks, trails, houses of worship, shopping centers, cultural and medical facilities, and business parks.

Nearly 120 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Prices start from the mid-$300,000s to more than $2 million. Custom lots in The Ridges are priced from the $500,000s. Monthly rent for apartments starts from the low $800s.
