Resident settles in at the Cottages

After suffering a stroke earlier this year, Richard Connerton underwent extensive therapy. Now he lives at the Cottages of Green Valley, an assisted-living and memory-care residential development at 2620 Robindale Road in Henderson.

"I came here in June," Connerton, 70, said. "My girlfriend (and I) had heard about it before.

"They (the staff) are very positive people. I'm always receiving congratulatory remarks to keep going. That's something you need. It must be working, because I'm feeling much better."

Connerton said he also enjoys the resident activities, which include fishing at Sunset Park; a bus tour of the Strip; sitting in the community garden with friends; and dancing to live music.

"They have plenty of things to do here," he said. "Now that I have a walker, I'm starting to get into the activities more often. They go to museums, swimming pools, and they also have sing-alongs and ice cream socials. We can also go to baseball games, and there are movies here. You have to stay active."

Connerton said his friends often come by to visit him.

"I just had two friends stop by from Albuquerque, (N.M.)" he said. "They thought this was a really nice place."

The Cottages of Green Valley offers single-story living among seven cottages.

For more information, visit the facility from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, or schedule an appointment.
