Shutters save homeowners from sunlight, protect views
Asa Moore and his wife, Thelma, say they have a million-dollar view of the golf course at their 3,000-square-foot home in Henderson.
Adding Rolladen Rolling Shutters made their single-story home that much better, according to the couple, which moved to Henderson last December.
"We like the golf course," he said. "We can see the Strip and the downtown from the front yard."
The only problem with the home was that intense sunlight came in through a window, interfering with the picture on their huge television. There were several suggestions to offset the problem of the light, but only one worked fully. The Rolladens were the ideal addition to the Moore home.
"In January, we needed the fireplace in the morning and the air conditioner in the afternoon," Asa Moore said. "My wife says that the house cools down, as soon as the shutters are being closed. And I like to show people how they work. The shutters are almost like a conversation piece."
Franchise owner Fran Minnozzi even had a custom-made skylight shutter installed on the home.
"We run into problems with skylights an awful lot," said Minnozzi, who founded the business locally more than 15 years ago. "We have perfected a skylight system that works beautifully."
The Moores lauded the service of Rolladen, saying company personnel was courteous and innovative.
"The shutters add peace of mind to every home," Minnozzi said. "Our customers become our friends in every case. We are very proud of our product and our service, and we are here for the long haul."
Minnozzi said business at Rolladen has skyrocketed during the summer, because of intense temperatures in the valley for the past two months.
"We have had many calls from homeowners who have asked us to replace their solar screens with Rolladens," Minnozzi said. "While solar screens are cheaper, they simply do not provide the benefits you have with the Rolladens.
"As soon as the heat hits, our businesses increases, and we're expecting the heat to last even longer this year."
The shutters are foam-filled aluminum slats used on the exterior of homes. They can reduce power bills as much as 54 percent, especially during the summer months, which drive utility costs through the roof.
The company's personnel measure each home. The shutters are then custom made for each home, with installation usually taking about two weeks.
The showroom is situated at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., just west of Jones Boulevard. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
