Lake Las Vegas offers golfing opportunities
The 2,600-acre Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson is becoming a nationally recognized golfing destination. Two Jack Nicklaus-designed signature golf courses are already open, a Tom Weiskopf-designed course is under construction, and at least two additional courses are planned. "The developers of Lake Las Vegas Resort are committed to building the best golf possible and as more of our signature courses come online, Lake Las Vegas Resort will surely be able to offer a multi-course golfing experience that is unmatched in the southwest," director of golf John Herndon said. The community's South- Shore Golf Club and Reflection Bay Golf Club have both received several recognitions by national golfing magazines. The first Nicklaus course, the private SouthShore Golf Club, has been receiving rave reviews since opening in late 1995. The 6,917-yard, par-71 golf course has as many as five tee boxes per hole, and forced carries over canyons and water. In November, the course will again host the nationally televised Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge, a tournament that matches nine of the top players from the PGA, LPGA and Senior PGA Tours and benefits the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Nicklaus' daily-fee Reflection Bay Golf Club opened to the public in 1998. The 7,261-yard, par-72 course features five tee settings, arroyos, several water features, and holes stretching along the 320-acre Lake Las Vegas. Its practice facility has a 10-acre driving range with double-sided tee locations, seven target greens, putting greens, bunkers and chipping greens. A host course to the Nicklaus/Flick Golf Improvement School and a former host to the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge, Reflection Bay Golf Club is also home to the waterside La Chandele at Reflection Bay restaurant. On the community's northern entrance, an 18-hole Tom Weiskopf signature daily-fee course is under construction. Designed with water features and desert and mountainous terrain, this par-72 course is scheduled to open by summer 2002 and will feature a 16,500-square-foot clubhouse. In addition to golf, Lake Las Vegas Resort offers custom-home sites in the hillsides, priced from $246,000 to more than $2.1 million. More than 20 model homes in six neighborhoods are also available, ranging from golf villas priced from $341,000 and courtyard townhomes from $409,000, to golf course homes priced from $600,000 and lakeside villas priced from $1.47 million. Through Sept. 9, a $100 certificate toward the purchase of one round of golf at Reflection Bay Golf Club will be given to visitors of at least one of the community's six featured neighborhoods. Certificates can be obtained at the community's Discovery Centre and must be validated at any of the featured neighborhoods. Advanced tee times are required, and play is subject to space availability. Lake Las Vegas Resort is being developed by Transcontinental Properties Inc.
