First family moves into Promontory
Linda and Tony Cabot's two children, Trace, 11, and Dani, 9, feel like they're on vacation all the time now that the family resides in their new custom home in the Summerlin master-planned community. The Cabots are the first family to move into Promontory at The Ridges, Summerlin's custom-home development being built around Jack Nicklaus' Bear's Best Las Vegas golf course. According to Linda Cabot, the family wanted a home in Summerlin because of the community's family orientation. "With lots of special events and activities for kids, Summerlin is such a family-friendly place. We even attended a few events, like Shakespeare Under the Stars, before we moved in," she said. The family chose the neighborhood for several reasons. "The mountain views, Promontory's larger lots, and proximity to the Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain where our kids attend school, all heavily influenced our decision. Plus, it's peaceful, quiet and relaxing here. This is a place like no other in the Las Vegas Valley," she said. Their home includes a media room and a hobby room where the children can paint models and create a variety of arts and crafts. "We loved the opportunity to build a home that is perfectly matched to our family's needs and interests," she said. The neighborhood is near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and named for the rocky ridges that run through it. The gated community is located at the west end of Desert Inn Road. The Ridges will eventually feature several custom developments and nearly a dozen neighborhoods behind guarded gates. A landscaped loop road will provide access to all neighborhoods within the community. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years, according to independent surveys. Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is being developed in villages. The community is home to several golf courses, nearly 100 neighborhood and village parks, nearly 100 completed miles of trails, 16 public and private schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks, and nearly 100 model homes. Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums in the community are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots ranging from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $1.5 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s. To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to the Sahara exit. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
