Siena's staff helps residents stay in shape
With a little help and encouragement from health and fitness manager Wayne Ireland and his staff, residents of the Siena age-qualified community in Summerlin have an array of year-round classes, activities and personal training to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. "With the newest fitness classes emerging and the latest state-of-the-art equipment being utilized, starting a fitness program these days can be an intimidating venture. Here at the Siena Health & Fitness Center, our goal is to not only provide a variety of activities and classes that are fresh and fun, but to also provide instruction and encouragement that help our residents be more confident and comfortable with the equipment they are using and the classes they are participating in," Ireland said. "Equipment orientation classes are scheduled every month to familiarize our residents to the cardiovascular and strength training equipment available, as well as the policies and procedures of the fitness center," he said. "We get questions on everything -- about proper weight machine usage, personal exercise programs, operations of equipment and just general fitness questions. Nothing gives us more satisfaction then helping our residents become more confident in their personal fitness routines." The 15,900-square-foot facility is equipped with cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, and exercise rooms. Regularly scheduled classes include water aerobics, aerobics and yoga, and a walking group meets twice per week. A "resist-a-ball" class will be introduced in September. Its indoor swim pavilion features a 25-meter pool; spa; and two-story windows overlooking the community's 18-hole golf course designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, outdoor pool and spa, and tennis and bocce courts. It also houses a wellness center, beauty salon and day spa. Preparations for the community's second annual Health & Fitness Fair are under way. "Our fitness center is bustling with activity with more than 200 visits per day. We have active pool users, a thriving Bocce Club, an official chartered Tennis Club and outstanding attendance at our various aerobic classes," Ireland said. Other community amenities include a 13,500-square-foot golf clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant. An interim social center is open and work is under way on a 39,000-square-foot community center, scheduled to open in spring 2003. Eighteen single-story floor plans measure from 1,040 to about 3,200 square feet and priced from the $140,000s to the $370,000s. Customizing options may be selected at an on-site design studio. The Portofino Collection features four attached designs that are priced from $145,900 to $171,600 and range from 1,040 to 1,378 square feet. To visit, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go south to Siena Monte Avenue. Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin.
