Summerlin ballet troupe spotlights academy
The Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre will hold its annual open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center in the Summerlin master-planned community. The school, affiliated with the state's only professional ballet company, was built on land provided by The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, and funded by a grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Its 36,000-square-foot facility at 1651 Inner Circle features seven dance studios, stage sets and scenery, hundreds of costumes, a room full of nothing but pointe shoes, and administrative offices. The academy's more than 25 instructors offer training in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, Pilates, yoga, Jazzercise, theater arts, piano, voice, fencing and ballroom. Classes are organized by age and experience. In addition, special programs are offered throughout the year, including a children's summer camp. "Nevada Ballet Theatre adds to the amenities of Summerlin, promoting an active, healthy and culturally enriched lifestyle," Hughes' executive vice president Larry Brocato said. "Thousands of our residents have been influenced by Nevada Ballet Theatre, which offers a variety of classes for youth and adults. In addition, its productions have become entertainment traditions for many Southern Nevadans." Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is being developed in villages and is home to eight golf courses, 107 neighborhood and village parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities and business parks. Nearly 150 models showcase the available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Homes are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/realestate and click on the Summerlin link.
