Aliante developers begin work on fire station

The city of North Las Vegas and developer North Valley Enterprises recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Fire Station 56 in the Aliante master-planned community.

The planned 9,000-square-foot building will be situated on 2.5 acres at 3475 W. Elkhorn Road, just west of Aliante Parkway. The property, structure and apparatus are being donated to the city by the developer. The total project is estimated to cost $2.5 million and is expected to be completed in early 2004.

Speaking at the event was John Kilduff, president of American Nevada Co., which along with Del Webb Corp. is a partner in North Valley Enterprises.

"North Valley Enterprises appreciates being part of the continued substantial growth of North Las Vegas," Kilduff said. "The contribution we have made in land and capital to this fire station will help North Las Vegas better serve residents of the northwestern part of the city.

"Over the last couple of years, we have appreciated the public/private partnership between North Valley Enterprises and the city of North Las Vegas. The city representatives we have worked with on this particular project have been impressive. Their professionalism and knowledge regarding life/safety issues and the efficiencies that can be gained by doing things properly, have been very helpful in the design process."

Jim Stubler, chief of the North Las Vegas Fire Department, and Mayor Michael Montandon both praised the developer for its contribution.

The new fire station is needed to provide fire and emergency services to the growing area of the city, according to city officials. Currently, the city has four fire stations, with a fifth station scheduled to open in October. Fire Station 56 will house one fire-fighting apparatus and one rescue unit as well as emergency personnel.

Encompassing 1,905 acres, the community consists of all-ages and age-qualified villages. Combined, they will offer as many as 7,500 homes. About 428 acres of the community is designated for recreational and public purposes including an 18-hole municipal golf course, three city parks, more than 20 miles of trails and linear parks, and an arroyo.

Builders are D.R. Horton, KB Home, Pardee Homes and Pulte Homes. Homes are priced from the $120,000s to the $370,000s.

In addition, Del Webb is developing Sun City Aliante, where homes are available priced from the $160,000s to the $250,000s.

Plans for the community include two elementary schools and a middle school, and about 100 acres for commercial development, including a 40-acre resort with gaming.

An information center located at the southeast corner of Interstate 215 and Aliante Parkway is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to Centennial Parkway, exit east to Sky Pointe Drive and turn right. Turn right at Frontage Road, then left on to Interstate 215. Exit at Aliante Parkway and go south to the primary village or north to Sun City.
