US Home unveils plans for charity golf event

US Home's "Swing for Life" charity golf tournament will be held Dec. 7 and 8, according to Mike DeSilva, Las Vegas division president for the builder. The event will benefit St. Jude's Ranch for Children.

"This is our inaugural charity weekend and golf tournament," DeSilva said. "This will now be an annual event for US Home. It's a wonderful opportunity for all of us to give back to our community as we strengthen the hopes and goals of St. Jude's Ranch for Children."

The two-day event will feature "An Evening at Paris," which will include a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, entertainment, and a gala dinner at Paris Las Vegas. The 18-hole golf tournament will be held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear's Best Golf Course and be followed by an awards luncheon.

Celebrity host will be Christopher Rich, who co-stars in WB's television series "Reba." He will be joined by celebrity friends from "Murder in Small Town X," "Walla Babies," "The Parent Trap," "Home Improvement," the NFL, baseball and P.C.R.A. Champions.

According to Kit Williams, director of community relations for St. Jude's, Funds raised at the event will go to further the development and completion of St. Jude's Santa Francesca Independent Living Program. She said this program will house and teach independent living skills to youths between the ages of 15 and 21, who need help preparing for when they will leave the structured residential care environment provided by the ranch or other programs. St. Judes Ranch for Children is already contracted by the state to be an Independent Living Program, but lacks a facility to begin the program.

DeSilva announced that the event's first major sponsor is Johnson-Manley-Black Lumber Co. and Vegas General, which has also been a primary sponsor for US Home Tucson Division's Swing for Life event since it began in 1997.

A limited number of sponsorship packages remain available, and the builder is seeking donations for the silent and live auction fund-raisers.

Event coordinators from the builder's local division are executive Lee Shendelman and executive assistant Sandee Mackall.
