Quarterhorse Falls provides room for ex-condo dwellers

When former San Diego residents Jan and Van Hakes searched for their first home in Las Vegas, they considered more than a dozen neighborhoods in all areas of the valley.
Eventually, they found the combination of features they were looking for at Quarterhorse Falls, a neighborhood by Sterling S Development in northwest Las Vegas.
"We lived in a condominium in San Diego, but we wanted something larger in Las Vegas as we anticipate frequent visits from our children, grandchildren and friends," Jan Hakes said.
"When we drove into Quarterhorse Falls and walked through the models, we knew we had found exactly what we wanted. It's a private, gated neighborhood in a nice quiet area and the selection of floor plans is outstanding."
The Hakes chose the largest floor plan, the two-story Lipizzan. It features four bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths and a three-car garage and measures 3,124 square feet. Options allow for an extra bedroom and bath, or den.
"The Lipizzan has a very gracious entry, with an elegant circular staircase and lots of volume," Jan Hakes said. "The living areas and bedrooms are very generous in size and the architecture of the entire home gives it a very spacious and elegant feel. We were looking for lots of living space and this home provided it at a very reasonable cost per-square-foot."
Four one- and two-story floor plans range from 1,841 to 3,124 square feet and come with three-car garages.
Most of the homes are single-story designs and all are on lots measuring at least 6,600 square feet.
Prices start from the low $160,000s.
Another new neighborhood being developed within the same gated enclave is Appaloosa Canyon by Spinnaker Homes. Five one- and two-story floor plans range from 1,482 to 2,532 square feet, all with attached three-car garages.
The enclave features homes with classic architectural styling, a private park and appointments such as gas street lamps.
To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to Durango Drive, head east to El Capitan Way, turn right and follow the signs.
The sales office and model homes are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
