Tennis stars in benefit tourney at Red Rock

Fresh from the grass courts of Wimbledon, tennis ace Serena Williams and several other top-ranked female tennis players served up an appearance last month at Red Rock Country Club's tennis center to help raise funds for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and play a match with some lucky fans.
"It was such a thrill for the tennis center to host tennis' best, and for the players and fans to experience our world-class facilities," Jeff Foley, director of tennis, said. "Williams and the other players were truly impressed with our stadium court and the Red Rock community, particularly the stunning nature-made backdrop of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area; a great compliment from professionals who have played at the top clubs in the world."
Williams, the reigning U.S. Open champion and Wimbledon doubles champion, joined Mary Pierce, Amy Frazier, Lisa Raymond and Erika de Lone on the courts of the community's tennis center to raise funds for "Players for the Cure." Proceeds benefited The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in support of their efforts to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer.
Foley said the inaugural tourney was so successful that plans are under way for it to be held again next year at Red Rock Country Club.
In addition to the ladies tennis exhibition, the July 22 event also featured a tennis clinic conducted by Nick Bollettieri and a silent auction hosted by the country club community.
The tennis center features nine lighted, hard-surface courts, including a stadium court where professional tennis exhibitions and prize tournaments are held.
Located at the foothills of the Spring Mountains in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Red Rock Country Club is under development behind masonry walls and a 24-hour manned gatehouse.
With 8,000 square feet, the sports club provides health and fitness equipment, saunas, steam rooms, an aerobics studio, locker rooms and a supervised play area.
The aquatic center features a family pool, spa, an adults-only pool, a lap pool, splash-and-spray mini-park as well as an outdoor grill.
The community is also home to the first of two Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole championship courses and a practice facility that includes a double-ended driving range, putting green and chipping areas.
Scheduled to open in December is the 44,000-square-foot main clubhouse, which will provide city and mountain views. Dining facilities will include the Oasis Grill and Lounge and The Palmer Lounge and Garden with indoor and outdoor seating. A banquet room will be available for special occasions. It will also house a pro shop and locker rooms with saunas, steam rooms, a lounge and media center.
Homes range from 2,100 to more than 8,000 square feet with as many as six bedrooms and a four-car garage. The single- and two-story floor plans are priced from the low $300,000s to more than $1 million.
Customizing options include casitas, courtyards with fireplaces, sit-down wet bars, and owner bedroom retreats with media niches and fireplaces.
Interior designers are on-site to assist homeowners.
To visit, take Sahara Avenue west to Town Center Drive and follow the signs. The sale office and models are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The developer, Sunrise Colony Co., is also developing Siena, an age-qualified community in Summerlin.
