Mountain's Edge to aid Boy Scouts
Mountain's Edge, a new master-planned community in the southwestern valley, has announced it will sponsor the third annual 5k Character Counts race benefiting the Boulder Dam Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Oct. 2 event will include a 5k race, as well as a one-mile fun run/walk. It is set to begin at 8 a.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center, 7220 S. Paradise Road. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5k race, and to the top three finishers in each age division. Special awards will be given to the first-place finishers in the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturer and Explorer divisions. Prizes also will be awarded to the top three participants with the most pledges valued at $100 minimum. The day's festivities will include a pancake breakfast after the race, and a kid zone with a climbing wall, jumpers, Clark County Fire Department fire safety house, and fingerprinting. Entry fees are $20 per person for the 5k race and $12 for the fun run/walk in advance, or $30 at the door. Participants can register at the community's sales center or the Scouting resource center, as well as Village Runner, The Athletes Foot and The Jock Shop outlets. The race continues the association between Mountain's Edge and the Boy Scouts. Last year, the community initiated Mountain's Edge Explorer's Post No. 26, a career-based program for high school students focusing on residential development. Upon completion, the 3,000-acre community will have about 12,000 homes from 21 builders. Planned amenities include parks, recreational facilities and retail centers. Four elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school are also planned. To visit, take Interstate 15 to Blue Diamond Road, and head west to Buffalo Drive.
