Summerlin center readies for new tenants

Canyon Pointe, a 600,000-square-foot community shopping center spanning 62 acres in Summerlin Centre, has signed leasing agreements with four new tenants: Best Buy; Borders; Marshalls; and Bed Bath and Beyond. The stores are under construction and expected to open this fall.

"Canyon Pointe is bringing much needed retail amenities and services into the master-planned community of Summerlin," said Jim Harris, area leasing manager for The Howard Hughes Corp. "These new tenants are well-respected retail giants whose popularity with consumers has helped them grow and prosper. Summerlin residents and area shoppers will undoubtedly benefit from their presence at Canyon Pointe."

Best Buy will occupy 45,000 square feet; Bed Bath and Beyond will measure 35,000 square feet; Marshalls will consist of 30,000 square feet; and Borders will occupy 22,000 square feet.

Another main anchor tenant at the center is Costco, which opened a 145,000-square-foot store in the fall of 2001.

Canyon Pointe is designed to accommodate retail users of 15,000 to 150,000 square feet. The center features two big box sites, a 15,000-square-foot drug store, 210,000-square-feet of in-line space, four restaurant pads measuring from 6,000 to 9,000 square feet, six fast food pads ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet, a bank, and a gasoline station. Buildout is scheduled for this fall.

The center is one of several in Summerlin, which is a development of Hughes Corp. along the western rim of the valley. The community is being developed in villages and has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years.

The community is also home to two Tournament Players Club golf courses, the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear's Best course, and five other courses. It also includes nearly 100 neighborhood and village parks, nearly 100 completed miles of trails, 16 public and private schools, houses of worship, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks, and nearly 100 model homes.

Houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $1.5 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s.

To visit the community's home finding center, take Sahara Avenue west, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to the Sahara exit. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
