Soccer players say Summerlin `kicks'
In the preteen words of 11-year-old Taylor Reyes and 12-year-old Emily Pearce, the Summerlin master-planned community "kicks." According to the girls, who appear in a print advertisement for Summerlin's new advertising campaign, the community couldn't be more perfect, except if it had a theme park and an ice cream store on every corner. "We wouldn't live anywhere else," said Doreen Reyes, Taylor's mother, who moved her family to Summerlin from Chicago more than three years ago. "Our experience was typical in that we couldn't imagine loving life in Las Vegas before we came here. But today, we couldn't imagine living anywhere but Summerlin." The Reyes family, which consists of four children ages 3 to 16, are frequent users of the leisure center in The Arbors village. "I especially like the basketball court and the game room," Taylor Reyes said. The family also likes to view the photos posted on the community's Web site after resident events hosted by the Summerlin Council. "The photos extend the great memories we're making as a family in Summerlin," Doreen Reyes said. "We're especially looking forward to the opening of the Olympic Swimming Pool later this year." The Pearce family, former residents of California, is sold on the community. "We were specifically looking for quality public schools and we believe we found them in Summerlin," Diane Pearce, Emily's mother, said As participants in the Summerlin Youth Soccer League, the girls recently participated in a soccer clinic hosted by The Howard Hughes Corp. at which Brandi Chastain, Julie Foudy and other professional women's soccer players offered instruction. "It was an amazing opportunity for these girls," said Doreen Reyes, whose husband, Mike, is a coach in the league. "Meeting and receiving instruction from the country's top female soccer players was inspiring for the girls. It was just another huge perk to life in Summerlin." Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years. Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is unfolding in villages and is home to two Tournament Players Club golf courses, a Jack Nicklaus Bear's Best course, and five other courses. Amenities include nearly 100 neighborhood and village parks, nearly 100 completed miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, and business parks. Nearly 100 model homes are open, and houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring one-third acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer rents starting from the $700s. To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
