Reminder: Real Estate section expands

New- and resale-home shoppers can search for their ideal home on Saturdays and Sundays starting next weekend in the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Sun's expanded Real Estate section.

Both days will include all the updated information about real estate with new homes the focus on Saturdays and resale homes the focus on Sundays.

Southern Nevada's resale market remains strong, having outpaced new-home sales the past several years. Just last year, for example, 34,427 existing homes were sold in the Las Vegas area compared to a record 22,940 new-home sales, according to Home Builders Research. No wonder we are experiencing one of the hottest real estate markets in the nation.

Whether buying or selling a home, we encourage our readers to take advantage of the services provided by the area's nearly 6,000 Realtors, many of whom advertise in the Real Estate section. These people are professionals, and can save consumers both time and money. So, for the latest about resale homes, check the Sunday Real Estate section and consider giving one of our advertisers a call.

Look in the Saturday edition for the bulk of information about new neighborhoods, of which there are about 300 in the Las Vegas Valley. Our Saturday focus on new homes -- large and small, attached and detached -- allows potential buyers to get an early start on weekend househunting, which makes our home builders very happy.

Of course, both sections will include reports about a variety of pre-home purchase considerations such as financing, as well as post-purchase issues such as landscaping or how to remove wallpaper, which, by the way, looked great when it was hung in the 1970s. Also look for our regular columns -- "Around the Block," "Association Q. & A." and "Ask the Handyman" -- and a few new features as well.
