Festival returns to Green Valley

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

The Green Valley Town Center Art and Craft Festival returns Saturday and next Sunday, and with it will be works created by public school students in Henderson. Representing grades K-12, the youngsters participated in the "Art Makes the World a Better Place" contest.

"We enjoy including activities for children in our shows, and we are grateful to the School-Community Partnership Program for helping us organize our inaugural juried Youth Art Exhibit," said Mark Vranesh, local artist and festival organizer. "There will be a special pavilion set up to display student artwork and to showcase the winning pieces. Based on the entries we have seen to date, the youth exhibit promises to be a very impressive addition to our show."

The contest will be judged in three age categories, and gift certificates for art supplies will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each category. All students who submit artwork will receive a certificate of recognition for their participation. Teachers of the winning students will receive special gifts.

An awards ceremony will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.

In addition, the works of more than 100 artists from Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah and Oregon will be displayed. A variety of media will be represented including painting, sculpture, pottery, glasswork, photography and jewelry. Specialty crafts will be available for sale, as will all of the exhibited items.

Other attractions will include a "Kidz Art Park" at which children will be able to participate in a variety of hands-on arts projects such as making Mother's Day cards, mural painting, coloring and other activities. For a nominal fee, children will be able to participate in ceramic painting, while supplies last.

Booths will be staffed by representatives of the Paseo Verde Library, Nevada Watercolor Society, Henderson Senior Art Club, Desert Sculptors and National Missing Children Locator Center.

Live musical entertainment will be provided.

The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, and will be held in the West Fountain Courtyard area. It is sponsored by American Nevada Co., developer and property manager of the town center. It is located at 4500 E. Sunset Road, east of Green Valley Parkway.
