Anderson named RED administratorBy NICK HALEYREAL ESTATE WRITER
Gail Anderson, a former education and public information officer for the Nevada Real Estate Division, will rejoin the state agency July 1 as its new administrator, according to a release from the state's Department of Business and Industry. The administrator manages the state agency, which is charged with regulating real estate agents and brokers, appraisers, inspectors of structures, mediators and arbitrators, and common interest communities. Additionally, the division educates professionals within real estate, as well as the public regarding laws and consumer protection. Anderson, a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has a background in education and is currently the administrator of Trinity Christian Schools. She also has previous experience as a researcher for the Commercial Appraisal Group/ Bank of America and as an education administrator for the local Appraisal Institute chapter. Anderson last worked for the division in 1998. Sydney Wickliffe, director of Business and Industry, said Anderson was uniquely suited to the position due to her knowledge of the industry, lack of conflicting interests, prior service within the division, and administrative and educational background. Anderson replaces Joan Buchanan, who resigned after guiding the division through a period of extensive activity and expansion which saw the addition of the ombudsman's office for common interest communities and the creation of a regulatory body for inspectors of structures. The new administrator believes more growth lies ahead, but was reluctant to provide specifics before meeting with staff. "I plan to meet with (managers) to discuss needs. I'll be working with them on a plan of action," Anderson said. She is, however, eager to modernize basic services, something other state agencies have already adopted. "Computerization and technology-based services for licensees is certainly a priority," Anderson said. Anderson delayed re-joining the division until the end of the school year at her current job. "Nevertheless, I will be doing some things before July 1," she said. "I want to hit the ground running. "Things are in motion at the division right now. The Real Estate Division never stops."
