Southern Highlands' community lifestyle suits native New Yorkers
Native New Yorkers Carmen and Kathy Leone found the lifestyle and homes offered at Southern Highlands suited their desire for a change of scenery. They moved into their 1,639-square-foot, Kimball Hill-designed home at The Heathers in October 2002. "... We decided on Southern Highlands after we talked to my aunt and uncle, both of whom live in Southern Highlands, and they recommended the community as the best place to be," said Carmen Leone, a retired deputy sheriff. Having lived in a rural area of Buffalo, the Leones wanted to move to a location where they could enjoy the "city" atmosphere, as well as the privacy and tranquility of a small town. They remained in New York while their home was being built. "It's nerve-wracking to have your home built in another state knowing that you can't see firsthand how the building is progressing," Leone said. The experience, however, was stress-free with the assistance of Southern Highlands Realty, they said. "(It) has been an outstanding experience," Kathy Leone, a registered nurse, said. "They went above and beyond to answer all of our questions and never left us hanging for an answer." The realty company recently opened a new center within the community. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Villages at Southern Highlands features more than 20 neighborhoods. Homes are priced from the $150,000s to the $400,000s. To visit, take Interstate 15 to the Henderson/Lake Mead exit, head west and follow the signs.
