Sun City Anthem center enters second year

Sun City Anthem is observing the first anniversary of its Anthem Center, the largest recreational facility at any of Del Webb Corp.'s communities throughout the nation, according to Steve O'Connor, sales and marketing executive.

The facility opened for residents in April 2000. At 75,000 square feet, it offers fitness, social and hobby amenities of every description.

"We don't just sell houses, we offer a lifestyle," O'Connor said. "A large part of that commitment is to provide exceptional recreational facilities for our residents."

The 20-acre site of the building also features outdoor amenities, including a zero-entry swimming pool with a spa and lounging area, eight lighted tennis courts, seven boccie courts, two horseshoe pits and a children's area. There is also a walking trail around the building's perimeter.

Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, inside the center, offers fine and casual dining and is open to the public. Also within the center are furnished and decorated areas, an indoor lap pool and a walking track above the pool.

"In fact, probably the best panoramic view of the valley is from the exercise area adjacent to a walking track with spectacular views of the Spring Mountains, Las Vegas Strip and The Revere golf course," O'Connor said.

Anthem Center was designed by The Dahlin Group of San Ramon, Calif., decorated by San Francisco-based Ziv Davis, and landscaped by James Dalton and Associates of Scottsdale, Ariz.

"We used a lot of traditional pieces in a contemporary way," Kevin Davis of Ziv Davis said.

Handmade wool rugs from Thailand accent the cherry-paneled resource room. Brazilian blue-marble globes in a faux finish frame the stage of the grand ballroom, which also features 1,000-plate glass chandeliers complementing the carpet, made in England especially for the Anthem Center.

The ballroom has banquet seating for about 400 and auditorium seating for about 500. The facility is available for public rental for weddings and special events, and doubles as a theater for live productions and projection shows.

The fitness center offers classes such as yoga, tai chi, stretch, relaxation, step and body shaping.

The building's crescent-shaped gallery is designed to look like a storefront street with shop-like entries to the activity rooms, including a resource room, billiards, shuffleboard, poker tables, craft and meeting rooms.

There are 17 models available at the community ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet. More are possible through the Gold Key program.

Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, to the entrance of Anthem and follow the signs.

Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
