Fitness popular at Red Rock

Pilates has proved so popular at Red Rock Country Club that the community recently added a new machine to its sports club to help members who already enjoy the exercise regimen geared toward relaxing mind and body, according to Sally Puskar, the country club's director of fitness.

"We have been teaching Pilates classes for quite some time, but the addition of the Pilates Reformer/Trapeze will enable our members to get a great Pilates workout any time they desire," Puskar said. "By using continuous movements, (it's) a great workout for all the muscle groups and helps improve strength, flexibility, core control, coordination, balance and posture. It's a total-body workout which leaves participants feeling energized, yet relaxed."

The sports club was expanded recently, doubling the size of the fitness room to make space for additional cardiovascular and strength equipment, a new sound system, as well as storage and stretching areas. Also, additional plate-glass windows were installed to provide views of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the mountains.

At nearly 10,000 square feet, the sports club offers health and fitness equipment, saunas, steam rooms, an aerobics studio, massage therapy rooms, locker rooms and a supervised children's area. Programs include mat classes, spinning, martial arts and ashtanga yoga -- in all, about 35 classes per week, according to Puskar.

Courses are directed by the staff, which include Puskar, and personal trainers Darrin Leak, Katie Paradise and Josef Vital.

The sports club is the entrance to the aquatic center, which features a family pool, therapeutic spa, adults-only pool, lap pool and a children's splash-and-spray area. An outdoor grill serves poolside snacks.

Swimming classes are offered from June through August for infants, children and adults. Certified instructors teach the classes which run in two-week sessions throughout the summer.

The country club's tennis center features a world-class stadium court, where professional exhibitions and amateur tournaments are held, as well as nine lighted hard-surface courts.

Jeff Foley, director of tennis, head tennis pro Crombie Hatfield and tennis pro Ben Coates teach individual and group tennis lessons.

Also at the country club is a 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, which hosts social activities in addition to fine and casual dining, both indoors and outdoors. It also has a business center with a conference room; banquet and special events facilities; a golf pro shop; and locker rooms with a sauna, steam room, lounge and media center.

There are two Arnold Palmer-designed, 18-hole golf courses, a double-ended driving range, a putting green and areas in which to practice chip shots.

Located in the foothills of the Spring Mountains, the guard-gated community features 24-hour security. Upon completion, it will comprise 1,116 homes.

Prices start from the $300,000s to more than $2 million.

The one- and two-story designs offer as many as six bedrooms and four-car garages. The homes measure from 2,100 to 5,300 square feet.

Among the customizing options are casitas, courtyards with fireplaces, wet bars, and master retreats with media niches and fireplaces. In addition, the builder's Sunsation program allows for a variety of options such as structural changes, room re-configurations or additions, swimming pools, upgraded landscaping, patios and lighting designs.

A design staff at the sales center is available to assist home buyers.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue west, past Town Center Drive, and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara and head west. The sales center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
