Summerlin welcomes fifth elementary school
Youngsters enjoyed the new playground on opening day at E.W. Staton Elementary School, located within The Arbors village in the Summerlin master-planned community. The school's 500-plus pupils moved into the newly completed building last week after holding classes in portables since beginning the 2000-2001 school year in August. Staton is the community's fifth public elementary school and is one of 16 public and private schools in the community. Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for eight of the past nine years, according to an independent survey by Robert Charles Lesser & Co. Summerlin is home to more than 55,000 residents living in more than a dozen villages. It has eight golf courses, 12 major parks, more than 45 neighborhood parks, more than 45 completed miles of trails, houses of worship, cultural facilities, business parks, shopping centers and medical centers. Homes are available in a variety of styles, including single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Prices start from less than $100,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots from one-quarter acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from less than $100,000 to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents from the $700s. To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or take Interstate 215 to Sahara. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
