Southern Highlands opens family park
The Goett Family Park recently celebrated its grand opening in the Southern Highlands master-planned community in the southwestern valley. The event had more than 1,800 attendees, and included activities such as pony rides, a face painter, flying-disc contests and sports clinics for children, while clowns made balloon animals for patrons. It opened with a dedication ceremony with Southern Highlands' president Garry Goett and his family, County Commission Chairman Dario Herrera, and representatives of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which received a $7,500 donation from the community. The 5-acre park features a playground; fenced, full-size basketball court; sand volleyball court; soccer field that divides into three practice areas; shaded picnic area with tables; and barbecue area and benches. Also opening just south of the park is the 9-acre Linear Park Paseo. It features a tree-lined path for walking, biking and jogging, and is part of a trail system planned to link neighborhoods within the community. More than 50 acres of parks are included in the master plan, as are private and public schools, fiber-optic communications, and a marketplace. Also planned are retail, dining and medical facilities. The Villages at Southern Highlands showcases neighborhoods built by American West Homes, Beazer Homes, D.R. Horton Homes, Greystone Homes, John Laing Homes, KB Home, Kimball Hill Homes, Pacific Southwest Development, Pulte Homes, Southwest Homes, Trophy Homes, US Home, William Lyon Homes and Woodside Homes. Prices range from the $130,000s to the $400,000s. To visit, take Interstate 15 to the Lake Mead Drive exit, go west and follow the signs. The sales office and models are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
