Former governor congratulates Pardee on 50 years

Back in 1955, decades before he moved into the governor's mansion in Carson City, Bob Miller lived in a Pardee home.

One of a dozen dignitaries who filmed congratulatory messages for the year-long celebration of Pardee's 50th anniversary in Southern Nevada, Miller has been a justice of the peace, then district attorney, then lieutenant governor.

He was also the longest-serving governor in Nevada history.

"When we first moved to Las Vegas, we moved immediately into a Pardee home -- actually on Pardee Place -- that my father had purchased before our arrival," Miller said.

"It was a duplex with three bedrooms, very near to Sahara Avenue, which at the time was called San Francisco Street. All the other side of the road was desert, so it was just about the outskirts of town, if you can believe it.

"We (made many) friends in our neighborhood and had many years of good memories. So I'm among all those saying, `Happy 50th Pardee.'"
