Recreation opportunities abound in Summerlin

With trails, parks, golf courses, sports fields and playgrounds, Summerlin is home to a variety of recreational opportunities.

Larry Brocato, executive vice president of developer, The Howard Hughes Corp., said the community was planned from its inception as a place where residents could play, as well as live and work.

"For those who live in Summerlin, there are many outdoor options for exercise thanks to the community's varied and numerous amenities," he said.

Those opportunities include more than 100 miles of trails; 107 neighborhood and village parks, which include swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, and playgrounds; and eight golf courses.

Community surveys have shown the trail system to be a popular feature.

"In addition to providing miles of uninterrupted and varied scenery for jogging, walking, roller blading or cycling, the trail system connects the community and enhances social interaction by providing a place for neighbors and friends to bump into each other," Brocato said.

The master-planned community is near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, one of the country's top destinations for rock climbing, cycling and mountain biking.

The Summerlin Community Association offers fitness classes and there are organized sports leagues for both children and adults.

Summerlin has been ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys.

The community is being developed in villages and is home to 18 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities and business parks.
