Huntington buyers take architectural interest

When architects Denise La Spaluto and Brandon Sprague drove into Coventry Homes' The Huntington neighborhood in the southeastern valley, they observed it with a professional's eye.
"Being an architect, I don't want my home to look like my neighbor's," Sprague said. "After looking at so many other neighborhoods, it became fairly monotonous. But when we drove into The Huntington neighborhood, it just felt good. There are certain amenities that showcase the individuality of the homes."
Sprague was impressed by the neighborhood's set-back garages and covered porches.
"The way they composed the different models really gives it a community effect," he said. "You don't drive in and see garage after garage. I really appreciate that."
The couple purchased the two-story, 1,940 square-foot, two-story Carmel model.
"I think they did a great job of putting the house together," Sprague said. "The master bedroom is very secluded, and it's huge. The touches they add to the homes really add to the lifestyle."
Other models include the Newport, a single-story home with 1,156 square feet; the Malibu, a two-story, 1,522-square-foot home; the Del Mar, a two-story home with 1,665 square feet; the LaJolla, a two-story model with 1,858 square feet; the two-story, 1,962-square-foot Carlsbad plan; and the two-story Monterey, which can be built with 1,983 or 2,196 square feet.
      Prices start from the mid-$110,000s.
Eight one- and two-story model homes have been released for sale in the neighborhood and include numerous upgrades.
Homes come with two to four bedrooms and two or 2 1/2 baths. Standard features include two-car garages, front-yard landscaping, concrete-tile roofs, rear- and side-yard fencing, rounded wall corners, walk-in closets, oak or maple handrails, and recessed lighting.
To visit, take Eastern Avenue to Silverado Ranch Boulevard and head west. Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Friday, when they open at 10 a.m.
