Priest Elementary
within northeast receives marquee
SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE
Centex Homes has donated marquee signage to Priest Elementary School in the northeastern portion of the Las Vegas Valley. The marquee dedication ceremony was held March 8, at 10 a.m. at the school.
The school's namesake, Richard C. Priest, a retired teacher and principal, was in attendance to help celebrate.

"This is just great for the community, for the parents and the kids," said De Ann Bauman, Priest Elementary PTA president and mother of a fifth grader at the school, which is located near Cheyenne High School.
"The school and the PTA have been trying to accomplish this for four years, since before the school opened and we really appreciate all Centex has done to guide us through this whole process," Bauman said. "We always struggle as a PTA and as a school to try and get information out to parents and the community. We thought the best way would be to have a marquee to post dates for science fairs, fundraisers and school holidays.
The new double-sided marquee will measure 8 feet by 4 feet and stand 12 feet off the ground.
The process of getting the marquee began with a general letter De Ann Bauman wrote to the Centex Las Vegas office in September. Centex Homes marketing coordinator Allison Brearley became Bauman's point of contact and helped the school get the project funded, built and installed. "She said whatever you need to get this done, we'll do it," Bauman said.
The school originally planned to purchase a sign from a Florida company for $6,000, and a local Las Vegas company wanted an additional $6,000 to install it. Allison helped Bauman find a local company, Nevada Sign, to build and install the sign for $7,000, which Centex Homes donated.
"We're a nonprofit organization, and we want to put our money back into the kids and the community, so this was a great for us," Bauman said. "Centex really took the bull by the horns and got this project done and we're so very happy. Communication is the key to a good education, and we really appreciate all Centex has done to guide us through this whole process."
Centex Homes' Las Vegas Division has pledged to donate $125 to Nevada State College for each home that closes through July.
