Community center anchors Summerlin sports park
The Veterans Memorial Leisure Service Center in The Arbors village in Summerlin is the cornerstone of The Arbors Sports Park, a 60-acre complex jointly developed by the city of Las Vegas, The Howard Hughes Corp. and Clark County School District. In addition to the center, the park also encompasses a swimming pool, under early development by Hughes Corp., and the sports facilities at nearby Palo Verde High School. "Summerlin is fortunate to have such a fabulous facility in our community," said Stew Gibbons, executive vice president of Hughes Corp., developer of the community. "The Leisure Service Center complements the existing amenities in Summerlin and significantly enhances what is available at Summerlin's other two private community centers." The 40,000-square-foot facility opened last year and is operated by the city of Las Vegas. It features a gymnasium; preschool activity room; classrooms for crafts, painting, cooking, pottery and other courses; fitness and aerobic rooms; a gymnastics training room; game rooms; and meeting rooms. The center is open to the public, and nominal fees are charged for classes and use of the facility. Summerlin is designed as a series of villages, each with its own major park or golf course. It is home to two Tournament Players Club golf courses, a Bear's Best golf course and several others. It also features more than 45 completed miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical centers, business parks, cultural facilities and more than 150 model homes. Houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from under $100,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots from one-quarter acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from under $100,000 to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the $700s. To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
