Summerlin's first park still popular with residents
The Hills Park was the first park to open in Summerlin, and has become best known for its amphitheater, where dozens of musical and theatrical productions are staged each summer. The 6.7-acre park opened in 1991, and is located within The Hills South village in the master-planned community. "The Hills Park became a signature facility for Summerlin before the first neighborhoods were even complete," said Stew Gibbons, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the community. "When Summerlin was under early development, we made a conscious decision to put amenities in place early in the community's development in an effort to define and create a quality lifestyle." Additional amenities include tennis courts, a playground, covered picnic pavilion, sand volleyball court and half basketball courts. Because the park is situated between the William R. Lummis Elementary School and Ernest A. Becker Sr. Middle School, baseball and football fields are adjacent to the park. The Hills Park is one of 12 major village parks and more than 45 neighborhood parks that are open in Summerlin, where more than one-third of the total acreage is set aside for parks, trails, golf courses and natural areas. Summerlin is home to two Tournament Players Club golf courses, a Bear's Best golf course and several others. It also features more than 45 completed miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical centers, business parks, cultural facilities and more than 150 model homes. Houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from under $100,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots from one-quarter acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from under $100,000 to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the $700s. To visit the home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
